Hockey

Mind Chaos

Release date: 28th September 2009

Label: Virgin Records

"Look out!  I've got too much soul for the world!" Portland’s HOCKEY release their debut album ‘MIND CHAOS’ on September 28 2009. The band will be embarking on a UK tour for the whole of September plus Reading/Leeds festival.

For men with such chaotic minds, Hockey's album of "witty, literate songs you can dance to (Guardian)” is an extraordinarily cohesive record that blends chunky beats, razor-sharp lyrics and a whole lot of soul.

With the band channelling influences from Tom Petty to The Cars to Roxy Music to Michael Jackson to LCD Soundsystem to the Wu Tang Clan, singer Ben Grubin combines a vocal soulfulness and vulnerability with an arch, raised-eyebrow wit that his self-absorbed contemporaries simply aren't bright enough to dream of.

Embracing an urge to mix the rhythmic sharpness of old school hiphop with the rawness of garage rock and the vitality of modern electro ("Everyone's making dance music now true, but we started in 2002"), HOCKEY have created the most colourful, vibrant and infectious record of the year: not so much organised as inspired chaos.
